Encryption tries to evolve with the times

Encryption has been trying to evolve with the times.
Encryption has been trying to evolve with the times.

Encryption has changed a lot recently, including the addition of PCI DSS guidelines and a change in how SSL certificates work. SC Magazine talked to Mark Knight and Steve Brunswick from the information technology security department of nCipher and said there are challenges in the industry, including how to retrofit certain types of encryption without affecting the user.

“Technology is making encryption transparent. If you know you are using it then it has gone wrong,” said Knight. The two said one area where it has changed is mobile payments, and Brunswick said SIM cards have more cryptographic aspects now to increase data security.

Brunswick said there will have to be improvements in the area of mobile encryption. He said people and businesses are investing more in security for the "big push" toward mobile data security.

With a Forrester report commissioned by PayPal saying that retail sales are predicted to reach  about $4 billion by 2016, there should be more data security precautions taken by eCommerce businesses dealing with SSL certificates.
