Use this checklist to ensure that you’re protecting your computer, your home network, and your personal identity.

- Before I make a purchase online, I verify that the site is secured.
- None of my social networking profiles are publicly displayed.
- I don’t open or download attachments in emails from people I don’t know.
- I change my passwords frequently and avoid obvious passwords.
- I keep my anti-virus software updated.
- I set my Web browser security level to high.
- I use a high-security, Extended Validation (EV)–enabled Web browser.
- I avoid checking high-risk Web sites (like my bank and investment account) or buying things online while connected to a public Wi-Fi network.
- I monitor my bank, investment, and credit card statements regularly and immediately alert my providers if something seems wrong.
