True BusinessID with EV certificates require the most thorough identity
authentication process performed today in order to be sure that any organization
certified exists. The green address bar displaying the organization’s name and
GeoTrust as the Certification Authority is difficult for a malicious site to
imitate. These two core aspects of the EV standard combine to create a strong
defense against phishing scams.
Who is eligible for EV:
The current identity vetting process established by the CA/Browser Forum
requires all organizations applying for an EV SSL Certificate to be listed in an
official registry in their area of jurisdiction. The following are eligible for
EV:
- Government agencies
- Corporations
- General partnerships
- Unincorporated associations
- Sole proprietorships with valid charters, certificates, licenses or
equivalent documents
The registration status must be verifiable through the
registration bureau. The individual ordering the EV SSL Certificate on behalf of
the organization must hold verifiable employment with the company and the
authority to place the order. No organizations located in interdicted countries
or included under a prohibited list such as an embargo restriction may receive
an EV SSL Certificate
Secure up to 25 domains:
True Business ID EV Unified Communications certificates can secure up to 25
server names that reside on 1 physical server and share the same second level
domain name. When ordering, you have the option to include 3 alternative server
names to be included in the certificate. The certificate issued by GeoTrust will
include these server names along with the server name listed in the common name
of the CSR you submitted, in the Subject Alternative Name fields.
Here are examples of formats that you can secure:
