Big data security being discussed by experts
In advance of a big data security panel, Bill Brenner, the managing editor of CSO Online, posted share some of the pros and cons of using big data for security purposes.
Andrew Jaquith, CTO of Perimeter E-Security, told Brenner that the pros of big data security are that it encourages exploration, is well suited for companies with large amounts of customer information and has a natural affinity for large amounts of data. As for disadvantages, he said it's still immature and more analytics are needed to move the industry forward.
Another set of pros and cons sent to Brenner by Sourcefire said that big data security techniques lend themselves to getting good analytics and said this will help business and security. On the con side, Sourcefire said there's no one-size-fits-all big data security solution and the firm believes securing good data should be the focus over big data.
Web security has become a hot topic of late, as more consumers continue to make payments and purchases online. As eCommerce grows, so does the importance of having the proper PCI compliance. Consumers may be more attracted to and willing to shop with companies that are able to meet high security standards as opposed to those whose security measures are suspect.
