Choosing an ISP for a small eCommerce business can be important

While many people mistakenly think that all internet connections are the same, eCommerce businesses cannot afford to make this error, according to Eric Geier of PC World. He said when shopping for internet access, companies need to look at what will work best for their website and what could help out in the way of data security.

"It's important to read and analyze the fine print of a service provider's contract before signing up," Geier writes. "The prices that most companies post online are conditional: Many require contracts, ranging from one to three years in order to get the advertised monthly service rate. In addition, some prices include a discount for a set amount of time or are locked in for a limited period."

Along with this, he said businesses should look out for what kind of equipment and installation fees come with each kind of internet connection, what IP address the business would get to work with, and whether the ISP offers SSL certificates or other kinds of security that protect customers.

Companies who are unsure about how to meet security standards and PCI compliance should make sure to seek professional guidance when they're first starting out. By taking their time and learning how to incorporate the best security measures, companies can ensure their websites are as safe as possible for their customers.
