Company wants to highlight their PCI compliance

During the winter holidays, shoppers should be careful where they put their card information online. One payment card company in McLean, Virginia, wants to make sure its customers now it follows PCI compliance rules in an effort to heighten data security.

“We want to highlight being PCI compliant,” Greg Hammermaster, president of Sage Payment Solutions, told the Central Valley Business Times. He said he believes being compliant with regulations from the Payment Card Industry, required by all businesses accepting debit or credit cards, helps govern the company's secure environment.

As long as merchants do their job, people should feel safe, but Hammermaster warns that online users also need to take their own precautions. Web users who shop on eCommerce websites should make sure they only purchase from accredited companies that meet the highest security standards. Failing to check a website's security credentials could put a consumer at risk for fraud.

According to a report form comScore, eCommerce businesses saw more than $18 billion in sales from November 1 through December 2. Businesses that want to keep existing customers and attract new ones should make safeguarding customer information a top priority.
