El Paso school district breach highlights need for data security

The El Paso Independent School District is responding to employee concerns about their Social Security Numbers being exposed by a data security breach, says a KTSM news report. The district admits it is a very serious situation and says that law enforcement officials are tracking down the criminals responsible for the hacking.

The report says EPISD discovered that more than 7,000 Social Security Numbers had been exposed after a data security breach.

Acccording to a Fox News report, a study by the Intelligence and National Security Alliance says the dramatic growth of sophisticated data security breaches has moved beyond the level of acceptable losses for government and businesses. The threats to finances and intellectual property have become unbearable.

"The impact has increased in magnitude, and the potential for catastrophic collapse of a company has grown," says the report. The report adds that it is not clear that the business community understands or accepts this.

Clearly companies that want to grow their business need to protect their sensitive information. With the plethora of threats increasing every day, experts recommend working with data security specialists to ensure the most appropriate data security solutions.
