Lessons learned on security must be applied to SSL certificates

While some companies have run into security violations on their eCommerce website, Thales said companies should use this and apply the lessons to increase SSL certificates, PCI compliance and other security.

Recent research by Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne said that encryption and digital signatures must have strong protection for the entire lifecycle, so companies should always stay on the security of their SSL certificates. This should help keep both the website and company secure through the process. The research said keys generated by software algorithms and without randomness can be easy to crack.

"Organizations face the challenge of deploying ever more sophisticated real-time intrusion prevention systems and data loss prevention solutions to protect against data leakage or intrusion," Mark Knight writes on Thales Key Management Digital Center, adding that the trend toward SSL certificates will make organizations create their own internal CA Root.

Indiana University IT Services' website said SSL certificates used properly will help websites encrypt data sent and detect alteration in the transit of the information. The university calls it "essential" for transmitting information such as credit card numbers.
