Paychex talks about issues facing small businesses

Small businesses, especially those with eCommerce websites, face many data security issues every year. Paychex, a payroll and human resources provider, recently issued its top regulator issues for 2012 and said security will be one area businesses will need to focus on this year.

“Some of these issues will lead to changes that are made legislatively, and others may be changed through simple rule modifications,” said Martin Mucci, Paychex president and CEO. “Regardless of the level of attention they receive, changes to each of these issues could require business owners to make significant adjustments to the way they manage their businesses.”

The company said businesses will be challenged by security in 2012, with instances of cybercrime and bank account takeovers becoming more widespread. Businesses will have to make sure they shore up security, and, if they accept credit or debit card payments, these companies should make sure they follow PCI compliance.

PCI Works said businesses should make sure they follow PCI compliance 2.0 by January 1, 2012. The post also said businesses should continue to follow strong security protocols into the new year to ensure their customers' private information is safe.
