Protect IP addresses

One healthcare provider is taking some big technological steps to help protect their patients' personal data and the company's IP address, according to CSO. Other eCommerce companies should take note of making sure data security, such as PCI DSS and SSL certificates, is shored up before storing or receiving important information.

Best Doctors, while having a small number of patients, said they take extreme measures to make sure everything on the company's website is protected from those with malicious intent. Lauren Gibbons Paul writes on CSO that vigilance is needed, as there are now more people that ever looking to steal data.

"Targeting of IP is increasing," says Gary Loveland, partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers, according to CSO. "We're seeing an evolution from a hacking perspective. Before, [breaking in] was just a trophy to show you could get access to the data. Then there was identity theft. Now, there's a focus on IP because of the profit motive."

SSLlogic said using SSL certificates to protect business allows convenient management, security for subdomains of an ecommerce website and cost effectiveness. Even so, businesses need to keep up with security and make sure a website stays safe, even after installation.
