Retails rank security as No, 1 concern

Accepting credit and debit cards is harder than ever with the amount of viruses, malware and hackers out to try and steal information. Data security is still the number one concern of retailers, according to Iconnyx, which reports that 47 percent of retailers said in a survey it ranked as their top concern with 20 percent citing data storage at the top.

The remaining concerns include mobile at 17 percent, eCommerce at 10 percent and cloud computing at 7 percent.

“It’s surprising to see that cloud is low on the list of retailer concerns, given that security and PCI compliance is top of the list," said Iconnyx director Tin walker. "This signals that for retailers, cloud-based technologies are neither seen as a solution or an issue. In either instance, use of the cloud can resolve security concerns and could be explored as a reliable means of addressing retailers’ issues."

Retailers worried about threats to their companies should look to PCI compliance to help keep credit and debit card information safe. Michael Lehman, Batteries Plus LLC CIO, said that big or small, businesses need to make sure they have the right amount of IT security when they are online.
