System resellers may enable better PCI compliance

While using high assurance SSL certificates and following PCI compliance should help keep companies maintain a high level of security online, Walter Conway writes on StorefrontBacktalk that companies may need application resellers and system integrators to bolster security.

Conway said PCI DSS guidelines and software requires the provider to educate customers and resellers on how to configure the payment applications in a compliant way, but he said there is no one checking to make sure this happens. This leaves more responsibility on the backs of those who run businesses.

"What this means is that it all comes back to the retailer," Conway said, addressing who needs to take the most responsibility when it comes to network security. "Retailers have to continue to take direct responsibility that their resellers and integrators accomplish their work in a PCI-compliant fashion. There is no way around it if the retailer is going to host a payment application."

With VeriSign SSL Certificates, companies can address this need for safety by managing all certificates through a console that can be renewed and updated by the company. This will help companies stay secure and PCI compliant.
