Address security concerns with SSL certificates

With a record breaking holiday season under the industry's belt, eCommerce businesses are now looking at other ways to improve their websites and make sure IT security is running at full force. Gagan Mehra writes on Practical eCommerce that businesses may want to look into SSL certificates to make sure their websites are appropriately secured.

"Security concerns by your shoppers can cause them to not use their credit cards online, or even visit your site," Mehra writes. "Using an SSL certificate and displaying the logo from the SSL provider prominently can help address these security concerns, resulting in more checkouts and greater revenue."

Another thing that can create repeat customers is better performance, so Mehra suggests investing in bigger servers, tweaking specific areas that may have performance problems and considering how the website is growing and how much it could grow.

Simply Security said data security on eCommerce websites is a two-way street: Companies need to be secure, and customers need to make sure they believe a website is safe for them to shop on. SSL certificates can go a long way toward making customers more comfortable.
