IT risk staff becomes important for eCommerce
Companies want to keep their eCommerce websites safe with the highest level of data security, and Gov Info Security said that IT risk and security professionals have become more popular over the last few years. With cyber threats, regulations such as PCI DSS, and data to analyze, the need for these professionals is greater than ever.
A survey by ISACA found that more than a third of companies in the United States plan on hiring IT risk staff in the next year. Companies need to take precautions to make sure customers don't have their credit or debit card information compromised on the website. Todd Weinman on Gov Info Security highlights the security risks coming down the pipeline.
"More significant is the change in tactics from 'hit and run' attacks to more stealth-like attacks in which hackers will harvest critical information, sometimes over years," he writes. "This will put a premium on risk individuals having the technical expertise to understand, detect and respond to these challenges and strategically maneuver the enterprise around these risks."
Risk and security professionals will be tasked with reducing the burden on companies that are trying to abide by compliance rules by HIPAA, the Dodd-Frank Act and PCI DSS. Shoring up security loopholes will not only help companies keep their existing customers, but it may help them become a more attractive option in the market.
