Keep eCommerce business safe from online shakedowns
As technology has become more advanced, the number of security breaches have increased. A post on Small Biz Technology said it is more important now than ever to make sure eCommerce businesses are protected with good IT security.
Charles Costa writes on the website that PCI compliance scans are required for any business that accepts credit cards, but eCommerce companies should also look into other ways of making sure the websites are secure to insure that customers will be safe shopping.
"There is no such thing as a fully secure website, and while having an expert promise invincibility against hackers, such promises should always be red flags, which cause you to turn the other way," Costa writes. "Additionally, depending on where you host your website, your host might already handle PCI scanning on your part, meaning that you don’t have to pay an additional fee for scanning unless you have a significant reason to justify the investment."
Bank of America said eCommerce businesses should comply with PCI DSS as a best practice for business, as doing this can help protect cards in transmission over the internet. Users who do not follow PCI compliance could be fined and even worse, could risk their customers' security.
